This week definitely didn't go as we had planned. Caitlyn started running a fever on Monday and, that night had a very rough night. Other than a fever and being fussy when you picked her up or moved her, she really had no symptoms. I called to the doctor on call a few times, and took her in the following day. We ran a lot of tests on her Tuesday morning at the clinic. They drew a lot of blood, tested her for influenza, did a chest x-ray and checked her urine. Luckily almost everything came back normal, however, just as we were about to run out the door they tested her urine and it showed a bit of blood. They decided to keep her and treat her with IV antibiotics for a UTI. Poor thing. It took a little to get an IV that worked, luckily we could get it in her foot since the hand one didn't work and we didn't need to go for a scalp vein. She started turning around on Wednesday and by Thursday was looking pretty good. At that point, they also decided that it was not a UTI as further testing came back negative for that. In the end, we decided it was one of the viral crud things going around. Christopher had it the week before, so it really did make sense. Friday afternoon we were finally able to take her home, and she has been doing great since then. She's eating well, and that first night home she slept 6 hours straight, mostly because she was awake most of the day! She has been smiling like crazy today. She is a bit spoiled and wants to be held a lot, but she is getting better at that too. We're hoping she stays healthy now the rest of the winter! If only we had in home day care to help keep her healthy!
